WHAT IS SAIN ?

One of the unfortunate realities in veterinary practice is that sometimes financial constraints prevent an animal from receiving the treatment they need. So we developed Students for Animals in Need (SAIN) - a student-run charity at the University of Glasgow with the belief that financial barriers should not limit access to necessary care. Through our fundraising efforts, we provide financial assistance for pets and their owners who would otherwise not be able to afford life-saving medical treatment and/or surgery at the Small Animal Hospital and Glasgow Equine Hospital & Practice. SAIN strives to promote animal welfare and the human-animal bond by supporting these families during a difficult time with their pet. We are grateful to be part of a community that shares this vision - to prevent needy animals from being turned away.

COVI, pictured here recently enjoying the beach, was a SAIN case from 2020 when he was attacked by a dog at only 8 weeks old and required surgery for a fractured leg. He is now a handsome, happy, and active adult!

We love hearing updates from SAIN alums!

WISPA, was suffering from severe skin disease from a tumor on his thymus (thymoma). SAIN was able to contribute to the cost of his surgery and he has recovered beautifully and no longer suffers from skin issues. His owner was very grateful for the support and has sent us this lovely update showing his coat growing back!
